The Roles of Mass Media

Hi everybody,

I refer to your opinion , Raidah that technologies are giving the negative impact to the teenagers' lifestyle. You’re exactly right. But, no one can blame the technologies such as internet, celebrities, tv shows and latest hit movies. You can't blame the parents, or the young couple. Truth is, it's not any one thing but all things combined. The parents should have talked more, the children could have listened. They could have tried protection or not listened to their friends that wanted to get pregnant with them. It's all situational depending on the person, their upbringing, and their personal believe.

People are 'pointing fingers' at the media because they didn't do the job well but media also give good effort to solve this problem. My next point is mass media role in preventing teenage pregnancy. The problem is not the media. Anyone who has ever been a teenager (that'd be all of us) knows you can't just tell a teen not to do something and expect them not to do it. Abstinence is not, and has never been, the answer to teen pregnancy, that's not the media's fault or its responsibility. However, mass media also can play their roles in preventing the teenage pregnancy problem, because media also can influence teenagers’ lifestyle.

Mass media denotes a section of the media specifically designed to reach a very large audience such as the population of a nation state. The term was created in the 1920s with the advent of nationwide radio networks, mass-circulation newspapers and magazines. However, some forms of mass media such as books and manuscripts had already been in use centuries. The term public media has a similar meaning: it is the sum of the public mass distributors of news and entertainment across media such as newspapers, television, radio, broadcasting, which may require union membership in some large markets such as Newspaper Guild, AFTRA, & text publishers.Internet media like blogs , message boards , and video sharing are included.

Actually, media have give big contribution in term of knowledge community such as campaign ‘Rumahku Syurgaku’ , advertised and produced ‘Berita Harian Didik’ , ‘Kem Motivasi Remaja-Utusan and Kosmo-Varsity Futsal Open. These entire programs encourage the teenagers to fulfill their time efficiently.

Another point is, media must always create a good program to take teenagers’ attention. For example ‘Spell It Right’, ‘Explorace’ , ‘Akademi Fantasia’ , ‘Bintang RTM’ and many more. Through these programs, teenagers can represent their talent and ability. These programs also can make teenagers close the eyes to involve in teenage pregnancy problem.

In reality, mass media give a big consequence in our life. All up to us to make decision in determine a good or a bad.
