teenage pregnancy statistics

one of the surveys conducted by a leading international organization called SAVE THE CHILDREN stated that annually 13 million children are born to women under the age of twenty more than 90% in developing countries. it also said that the highest rate of teenage pregnancy in the world was found in the sub-saharan africa. the united states has the highest teenage birth rate and a very high teenage abortion rate as well.
until 2006 there had been a declining trend in the teenage pregnancy numbers, especially since the early nineties.however, as of 2007 the teenage pregnancy rates have begun to rise again reversing the positive trends seen in the previous years.

Another effects of teenage pregnancy

Of those teenage girls who choose to continue their pregnancy, alarge proportion are from a disadvantaged or dysfuntional socio- economic background. They are increasingly young and, in many cases, were themselves born to teenage mothers. The generally occupy underpaid and undervalued work positions. these young women can nevertheless be very good mothers if they receive proper support.
Teenage mother often face the following consequences, social isolation, poor life habits, low education level, maltreatment, stress and depression. Although some teenage mothers can receive help from their family and those close them the scene is not particularly bright.

The Poor Parenting Skills

Yes , I agree with you. The 'poor parenting skills' proves to be an important factors leads to this problem. Since both the father and mother do not know how to bring up their children as well as not knowing the roles of each one towards the house. Usually, mother send their kids to the kindergarden to bring them up. But , no one guarantees that the kids up in the proper way. Mothers are too busy to educate their family about relation between the father and child. The family is my keyword of my point. The family is considered as the basic unit of any cilivization on the earth. In Islam , the family is the foundation of the Islamic society. They should be some campaigns that emphasize on the roles and responsibilities of the man in leading the family. The man must leads the family not to destroyed them. So that, 'sumbang mahram' cases will not happen.

Not for girls only

Too often, adolescent pregnancy is viewed as a problem having to do exclusively with teenage girls. Overlooked are the teenage boys and men who share equally in this responsibility. Their need for pregnancy prevention information and services is no less important.

Current studies show that when fathers are involved in the physical care of their children before the age of three, they are less likely to sexually abuse their own or any other child in the future. To break the cycle of sexual abuse which often leads to teenage pregnancy, intensive family support programs, such as Healthy Families, are needed to teach fathers about parenting and help them connect with their children from birth.

Comment on The Roles of Mass Media & Roles of Society

Every year, young people are inundated with a barrage of messages about sex and sexuality from their peers and through the media. How do we ensure that adolescents are getting the right messages that will help them stay safe and healthy and avoid early parenthood?

I am agreeing with Noraida’s point in this view. Young people need to hear strong and consistent messages about responsible sexual behavior. Certainly parents - through discussion and example - carry the primary responsibility for guiding their children, and they should be supported in doing so. But the larger community, and especially the media, must regularly reinforce parents with complementary rather than contradictory messages.

My second opinion is that when children are isolated from their peers, lack positive adult role models or experience few successes, they are at-risk of slipping into problem behaviors. Communities must ensure that children have access not only to nurturing adults, but also to a broad spectrum of programs, activities, and service opportunities that can build self-confidence, bolster self-esteem, and forge positive connections.

Spread the Word

Assalamualaikum…….

Teenage pregnancy is an ongoing problem in today’s society, In fact it seems that everyone has an idea about how to “solve” the problem of teenage pregnancy, yet not much has changed. While small strides have been made in reducing the number of teenage pregnancies, the amount of money spent on prevention programs is disproportionate to the outcome. There are many possible reasons for this, such as the wrong populations are getting the wrong information, or teenagers are just not getting any information at all. However, as a society, we cannot respond to this by throwing up our hands and giving up! Rather we need to figure out what will work.
Because of widespread social concern over teen pregnancy, numerous prevention programs have been implemented throughout the nation.

According to American Medical Student Association who conducted a review of various teen pregnancy prevention programs across the country has evaluated five different types of prevention programs:
1) education programs
2) contraception distribution programs
3) programs designed to improve parent-child communication about sexual topics
4) multiple component programs
5) youth development programs

After I have read through the handbook published online, (feel free to access the web site: http://www.amsa.org) my conclusion is that of all the programs, multi-component programs, which included a range of community and media activities, showed promise for decreasing teen pregnancy rates when the programs were maintained for long periods of time. My evaluation on youth development programs, which focused on building self-esteem and learning life-skills, might be effective too at decreasing teen pregnancy rates. However, results of the National Longitudinal Study on adolescent Health suggested that greater time spent in parent-child activities reduced the likelihood of the child becoming a teen parent.

Untill next time…..

The Roles of Government

Teenage pregnancy is a problem, and there are solutions on how to solve it.Government and religious department also at wrong if they didn’t do their roles. Government and religious department must keep a check and enforce on law for the young. The penalization must be proportionate. For example , parents and teenagers need to paid as a penalty or the teenage that involve must be interned person until they are realize what they do.

Government and religious department are committed to promoting abstinence education programs and dissemination of information on promising approaches. Create the programs are built on the belief that the most effective programs are community-driven and support the involvement of parents and other adults in young people's lives. By focusing on abstinence and personal responsibility, variety program hopes to help young people develop their abilities to make the choices that will lead to a successful future.

Government can influence public attitudes and behaviors around teen pregnancy and sexually risky behaviors by using social marketing and public service campaigns. Social marketing seeks to change ingrained attitudes and behaviors that may not be perceived as harmful to the target audience. However, raising awareness about harmful behaviors or attitudes is not enough––the ultimate goal is to change the harmful behavior. Successful public service campaigns raise awareness and examine how interpersonal factors, institutional and community factors, and public policy affect unhealthy behaviors. A teen pregnancy prevention campaign usually includes a focus on changing individual sexual behavior, changing the social and cultural norms about appropriate roles and behaviors of teens, and supporting community-based programs that address teen pregnancy prevention or provide services to teen parents. Most public service campaigns that focus on changing unhealthy behaviors or cultural norms take time to have a long-term cumulative effect on social attitudes and behaviors and should not be viewed as a quick fix. Governments’ campaigns, state health departments, state social service departments, and broad-based state and community coalitions have developed public service campaigns to bring more awareness on reducing teen pregnancy such as "Kenali Anak Kita Campaign" were launched recently. A good public service media campaign, developed by a public relations firm, will contain a simple, catchy message that is repeated in media advertisements for television and radio, billboards, posters and brochures. In some cases, the campaign directs teens to established prevention programs or social services offices.

What I’m trying to say is government need to:-
· keep a check and enforce on law for the teenagers
· promoting abstinence education programs and dissemination of information on promising
approaches
· creating public awareness

The Roles of Society

Back to our previous discussion, I’d like to emphasize about society’s responsibilities.

Society is the manner or condition in which the members of a community live together for their mutual benefit. By extension, parents must cooperate with other parents in the society to solve teenage pregnancy. Today, both the parents in our society are working hard to earn more bucks and the result is while their house is being filled with precious items to show off , their most precious gift of God, is on the road to self destruction. While they are trying to fulfill their dreams and afford their children's dreams as well, our society often forget to ask their kid what he/she actually needs. While parents lose interest in parenting their children and the child misses out on love and affection, the two most needed things in a child's life. With no love and affection received from parents, the child goes wayward. It is, then, that your little angel tries to find someone of her own age and develops an emotional bond with the person. So, first step, society must conscious what the necessary for adolescent.

Rising number of teenage pregnancy is often quoted as an example, to prove that our society is going downhill. Young pregnant teens can be seen passing their time at food joints and hanging out with their friends, while being casual about their unplanned pregnancy. This may be essentially, because they are unaware of the huge responsibility that is on their way to get to them, where they will have to care for a child on their own. The world seems to go topsy-turvy, as mothers are yet kids and kids have become mothers. The irony of the situation is that while people blame younger generation for being so irresponsible, little attention is paid to the generation, who is parenting these teenagers and what they are doing to ensure their child’s safety and a secure future for her.

Society can get rid of teenage pregnancy by creating awareness among teenagers. It becomes the duty of every parent to advise their children on sex related issues. The next step to curtail teen pregnancy would be to encourage group activities. As a society, you should discourage early dating as well. It is also important for committee of the society to monitor the activities of their teens. Inculcating the right values, helping them to judge what is moral and immoral; the difference between good touch and bad touch and how to overcome peer pressure is what can solve this problem. Inability to address this problem of society will produce a generation of irresponsible adults who could ruin their lives with their own actions and consequently the lives of their loved ones.

Another step is society must incorporate a committee to help parents in overcome this problem. The committee can manage a program for the parents and children. Elements of such programs include :-

Realistic sex education.

An expanded network of preventive family planning services.

Teenage pregnancy counseling services.

Adequate prenatal, obstetric and pediatric care for teenage mothers and their children.

Educational, motivation and social services for adolescent .

Involve or engage your child in the society activities such as sports, dancing, painting, singing and so on. This way your kid would be too busy in his academic and extra society activities to think about other things.

Infuse in your child family traditions, ethics, values and principles. This way he/she would realize the do's and don'ts of their family ideals in the society.

No one program can possibly solve the many problems that are associated with teenage pregnancy. The solution must come from many elements of society: parents, Jabatan Agama Islam Negeri, the schools, state and local legislature and government agencies. Most people agree about the importance of services and research for teenagers, but there is not yet the willingness to pay the costs for such programs in most committee of the society.

The Roles of Mass Media

Hi everybody,

I refer to your opinion , Raidah that technologies are giving the negative impact to the teenagers' lifestyle. You’re exactly right. But, no one can blame the technologies such as internet, celebrities, tv shows and latest hit movies. You can't blame the parents, or the young couple. Truth is, it's not any one thing but all things combined. The parents should have talked more, the children could have listened. They could have tried protection or not listened to their friends that wanted to get pregnant with them. It's all situational depending on the person, their upbringing, and their personal believe.

People are 'pointing fingers' at the media because they didn't do the job well but media also give good effort to solve this problem. My next point is mass media role in preventing teenage pregnancy. The problem is not the media. Anyone who has ever been a teenager (that'd be all of us) knows you can't just tell a teen not to do something and expect them not to do it. Abstinence is not, and has never been, the answer to teen pregnancy, that's not the media's fault or its responsibility. However, mass media also can play their roles in preventing the teenage pregnancy problem, because media also can influence teenagers’ lifestyle.

Mass media denotes a section of the media specifically designed to reach a very large audience such as the population of a nation state. The term was created in the 1920s with the advent of nationwide radio networks, mass-circulation newspapers and magazines. However, some forms of mass media such as books and manuscripts had already been in use centuries. The term public media has a similar meaning: it is the sum of the public mass distributors of news and entertainment across media such as newspapers, television, radio, broadcasting, which may require union membership in some large markets such as Newspaper Guild, AFTRA, & text publishers.Internet media like blogs , message boards , and video sharing are included.

Actually, media have give big contribution in term of knowledge community such as campaign ‘Rumahku Syurgaku’ , advertised and produced ‘Berita Harian Didik’ , ‘Kem Motivasi Remaja-Utusan and Kosmo-Varsity Futsal Open. These entire programs encourage the teenagers to fulfill their time efficiently.

Another point is, media must always create a good program to take teenagers’ attention. For example ‘Spell It Right’, ‘Explorace’ , ‘Akademi Fantasia’ , ‘Bintang RTM’ and many more. Through these programs, teenagers can represent their talent and ability. These programs also can make teenagers close the eyes to involve in teenage pregnancy problem.

In reality, mass media give a big consequence in our life. All up to us to make decision in determine a good or a bad.

Impact of Teenage Pregnancies and Teen Abortions

assalamualaikum.good morning to both of you.I'mhere to share with you again about our task. Most of the people put a lot of thought and planning before they decide they want to have children, since raising a child is an extremely difficult task, which requires a lot of psychological, physical as well financial strength. The first and most important thing about teenage pregnancies is that teenage is a very tender age, and hence teenagers lack the physical as well as psychological maturity required for conceiving children. Teenage pregnancies can very extremely difficult to deal with not only for the teen, but the entire family and might have an effect on the younger siblings of the teenager. Continuing education becomes very difficult for teenage mothers, which again leads to an unstable future without education and proper employment opportunities. This affects the quality of living of both the mother as well as the child. The risks associated with childbirth are higher for girls under the age of fourteen years. An underdeveloped pelvis often leads to complications during childbirth. The Caesarean section option can be used for dealing with obstructed labor, however, in developing regions where medical services might be unavailable, it can lead to obstetric fistula, eclampsia, infant mortality, or even maternal death.

My point of view on the Effects of Teenage Pregnancy on Society

Good morning everybody!

I'm sorry Raidah, still no sign of of our dear friend Nurkhalimaton. I hope she can join us in the discussion before it's too late. If anyone can help on locating her or find a way to contact her it will be very much appreciated.

Continuing on my last issue, let's move to my another view on effects of teenage pregnancy on the society.

Teen pregnancy is a controversial issue because it affects society as a whole. Teenage mothers often raise children who never learn how to live productive lifestyles. Many of these children become victims of the teenage pregnancy epidemic therefore perpetuating the vicious cycle of poverty, poor education, joblessness, and lack of hope for the future.

My 1st point, the absence of a father figure in the home brings about a chain reaction of dilemmas. The emotional problems that children might suffer because there is no father in their life can be potentially hazardous to their futures. These powerful emotions have the potential to do permanent damage in a child's life. Children may experience depression, aggressive behavior, frequent illness, difficulty in school, eating problems, or sleeping disorders.

My 2nd point, many children that live in a single-parent household also suffer from various social difficulties and self-esteem problems. The pressure that children raised by teenage parents are put under is tremendous. Children with only one parent present in the home often feel unloved, and for a child there is nothing as painful as parental rejection. Children who don't have good role models often choose negative, unsavory characters to mold themselves after.

My 3rd point, teenagers faced with the harsh reality of raising children are usually unprepared to handle the responsibility. A lot of men try to run away from the problem. They can then reject their children and neglect to provide any kind of financial assistance for them. The mother is ultimately left alone to juggle the task of raising the children and earning all or most of the family income needed to support them. Often, teen mothers have to rely on government aid such as Welfare, W.I.C., Focus Hope, project housing, and Medicaid. These mothers are only able to give their children the bare minimum for survival. It seems unfair that these children have to suffer for the mistakes of their parents.

My conclusion, teenage girls that get pregnant in our community become overwhelmed with the pressures of supporting their children financially while trying to instill morals and ethics in their lives. We as a community need to come together and teach prevention. The problems of a teenage mother and her children eventually become the problem of all of society. Children come first because they are our future. Educating teens and their families about the responsibilities and the risks of having sex is a must in the effort to reduce teenage pregnancies.

MORAL DECAY AMONG MUSLIM TEENAGERS IN MALAYSIA.

Good evening my friends.how are you?how about our friend's kak khalimaton? what happen? i never heard anything about her. anybody can help her?it's ok.i want to start my discussion now. This article discussed about the moral decline among Muslim teenagers. I would like to highlight Muslim teenagers because they are foundation for our nation and Muslim reflected Islam as a formal religion for Malaysia. We as a leading not only in this country but also in this universe should practice good moral and values in our life because we are the "khairul ummah"(the best ummah) in this universe.
"you are the best of the nation raised up for (the benefit of) men..."
Therefore strong Islamic moral values should be cultivated in the soul of our teenagers. This is a best approach for us to lead them in achieve our mission Excellence, Glory and Distinction.

Nowadays we can see muslim teenagers around us, not only dressed in improper attire but they also behave in rude ways. They seem to forget their culture, religion and root. For them, freedom and happiness must be their first aim. Their tradition culture and religion should be left behind because they only restrain them from achieving total freedom in their life.
For example in Edisi siasat 2006 program dated on 30th April 2006, they shot a videoclip in one of nightclub in Kuala Lumpur area. From that scene it showed female and male teenagers dancing in wild manner without notice that there was a camera capturing their bad and wicked bahaviours.According to Edisi siasat,s host they just took and felt energetic and excited. They were able to dance the whole night without break. some of them studying in higher institutions and come from elite families.

When these social problems have spread among our teenagers, all of us started to show fingerss to parent. But in this situation we should not blame each other.Instead, we need to find out the situation to reduce these problem because it a part of to be teenage pregnancies.sex without married. As great scholars stated "Every illness have its remedy". When we ask this "Millenium Teenagers" regarding these issue they will say "...ooo .... government must put closed- circuit Television (CCTV) at all areas in town definition we can simplified that moral decay is a decline of moral values. According to Al- Ghazali this moral decay happens when there is an inverse relationship between prosperity and moral decline. It's accorrence influenced by hedonistic worldview and lifestyle. From that statement, we can say that moral decay or moral incline happen when wealth, physical and emotional satisfaction and pleasures becomes as the fundamental goals in our lives.

In my opinion, the main cause of this problemis devoid of Islamic values. this is because Islam is the way of muslim life. Islam is a complete religion where it gives us guideline through Quran and Sunnah which cover all asspects in human life.It is including the way we behave in our daily life.

Impact of teenage Pregnancies and Teen Abortions

The first and most important thing about teenage pregnancies is that teenage is a very tender age, and hence teenage lack the physical as well as phychological maturnity required for con ceiving children. Teenage pregnancies can very extremely difficult to deal with not only for the teen, but the entire family and might have an effect on the younger sibling of the teenager. Continuing education becomes very difficult for teenage mothers, which again leads to an unstable future without education and proper employment opportunities. This affect the quality of living of both the mother as well as the child. The risks associated with childbirth are higher for girls under the age of fourteen years. An underdeveloped pelvis often leads to complications during childbirth.

Teenage pregnancy issue again!

Here I am again posting a little of explanation about teenage pregnancy. It was last October 24th since I am not in the mood to write because I suffer pain and headaches. Anyway, one of the difficult experiences among women was having pregnant during early ages. This may interrupts school and other plans. It also create crisis with emotional and psychological crisis resulting fears and shame. Stress and depression also exist when a woman gets pregnant at early age. Finding help may seem impossible to you because you don’t know what to do, you don’t know if you are going to say it your parents. You might think that no one will help you. During pregnancy, you will lose the time of you could have that every teenagers experienced. Schooling and other activities might be forgotten because you are thinking on how to make money for your labor. I think counseling and prenatal care with this kind of situation is very important.

Since most teenagers are not aware about the consequences of having pregnant early, effect on this problem with them are seriously important. Having a child and preparing to be a mother is not easy. A question for young teenagers on how to cope their child might affect their behaviors. Become a mother with a young mind is not easy. Dealing with unplanned pregnancy among teenagers is confusing and scary. Depression, frustration, fear, and other emotional problem are some of the emotions that may experienced when they are facing unplanned pregnancy. One the emotional effect that might occur among teenagers who get pregnant early is depression, to decide whether to keep or not to keep the baby is a hard decision among young teenagers, since they don’t know how to handle this kind of situation.

Also because of frustration, usually some teenage parents dropped out of school and never return. Based from the article of selfhelpmagazine.com that I read on the net, 80% of young teenage mothers are out of school. These only show that teenage pregnancy is really a serious problem that shouldn't’t be ignored.

In this case, if all parents understand the situation of their daughter having early pregnant, support and love for all teenage moms will rise; teenage mom will easily accept what they are going through. Implication and other psychological problem will not exist.

I hope this info will Raidah on her findings on effects of teenage pregnancy. Until we met again. Bye!

continue.... from the cause of teenage pregnancy

Most of the youth fulfill their leisure time watching television, playing play station games, surfing internet, learning and so on. They are fast learner and expertise in using modern technologies. The technologies are suppose to make our life better and help us to finish our work on time. However, the technologies are also giving the negative impact if the users abuse the technologies. They are straying from the actual uses of the technologies. For example, internet is used to find a lot beneficial information to add to our knowledge in various things. Using internet allows us to obtain all the information without limitation. However, we also can search unnecessary website such pornography sites, sex sites, black metal sites and so on.those websites are trying to influence our youth to be rebellious teenagers.
Friend are most important supporter to the youth. They meet their friends almost every day at school and often go out with of them.Regarding this phase, the teenagers prefer to share their problems, hobbies, happiness and sadness with their close friends.Friends are subjects who influence the youth in making decision, build their thinking and confidence without limits. If they are fortunate and associate themselves with good and kind friends, they will be inspired to be brilliant students. they recognize what are the good and bad behaviors.
From what i discuss,we can conclude that education is the most important agenda to prevent our young generations from being manipulated by the tough situation.Parents should enlarge their knowledge and skill how to teach their children. They should monitor their children from useless or harmful activities.Love your children and develop them to be humble young generation.therefore, education comes in two forms, informal education from parents and friends and education from school, where knowledge is gained especially in academic fields

CAUSE OF TEENAGE PREGNANCY

mogning friends.i'm coming to share something with you all.
Malaysia is categorized as third country and has received rapid growth in socioeconomic and advance technologies. The globalization makes the world become amaller and all the information could be obtained easily by clicking on the computers.World without any barriers allows cultures from other countries influence the malaysian especially the youths. There are good and bad cultures. The social problems emerged due to bad culturesfrom other countries. Cultures which we do not feed into our own cultural and religious values. Most young generations cannot identify and analyze what are the good and bad things. It could eliminate the moral values in each young generation.
There are several factors which trigger this phenomenon. Most people blame the parents who are not giving their childrenfull attention.in this point, i agree with my partner's idea.As a mother and father,we are responsible to teach our children how to prevent themselves from being involved in social problems such as smoking, sex before marriage, vandalism, bullying and other negative actions.Nowadays, the parents are going out early in the morning to go to work and reach home at midnight. They do not have sufficient time with the children. So, who will teach them to be a good girls and boys?Who will tell them what are good and bad actions and what the effects are if they are doing the bad things?

CONCLUSION on causes of Teenage Pregnancy

Environmental Risk Factors

Research on teenage pregnancy risk factors indicates that there are a variety of environmental factors that are strongly correlated to increased rates of teen pregnancy. For example, there is a strong correlation between teen pregnancy and the neighborhood in which the teens live. Teens that live in neighborhoods with high levels of poverty, low levels of education and high residential turnover are at higher risk for teen pregnancy. Family is also a strong indicator of the likelihood of teen pregnancy. Typically, teens that come from poor, less educated, single-parent families are at a greater risk for pregnancy. Teens whose mother or sister gave birth as a teen are also more likely to become pregnant during their teenage years. According to a study which used data from the British National Child Development Survey, daughters of women who gave birth as teenagers are nearly twice as likely as daughters of older mothers to give birth as a teen. Research also indicates that females whose families provide less support and supervision are more likely to become pregnant as teenagers.

Individual Risk Factors

Several individual risk factors may affect whether a teen becomes pregnant. Outwardly, apparent risk factors include poor performance in school, aggressive behavior, engaging in other risky behavior (including using drugs and alcohol), dating at a young age, dating older partners, and not being well-liked by peers. Teens who experience puberty at an early age, males with high levels of testosterone and adolescents who have experienced sexual abuse or pressure are also at greater risk of early childbearing. There are also several attitudinal factors that increase the likelihood of a teen becoming pregnant. Females, who have permissive attitudes toward premarital sex, have negative attitudes toward using contraceptives, and either wants to have a child or is ambivalent about having a child during adolescence, is more likely to become pregnant as teenagers. An adolescent female may be ambivalent about becoming pregnant if she has a low expectation for her future, feels unable to control her life or feels isolated. A study of urban adolescent males indicates that males involved with pregnancy are more likely to believe that causing pregnancy is a sign of manhood.

Many of these individual and environmental risk factors may be tied into experiences of poverty. The environment that poverty creates, the lack of resources and support, and the resulting perceptions of limited educational and financial opportunities may reduce the perceived cost of teen pregnancy and motherhood for adolescent females. Having a child may be perceived as the only way to bring meaning into the adolescent’s life.

Opinion on Educations’ Role in preventing teenage pregnancy

Yes, I agree 100% with Noraida’s point that educations play an important role in preventing teenage pregnancy. Encourage teenagers to take school seriously and set high expectations about their school performance. School failure is often the first sign of trouble and can end in teenage parenthood. Keep track of their grades in school and discuss them together. Meet with teachers and principals, guidance counselors, and coaches. Volunteer at the school, if possible.

Education from parents definitely helps too. Studies have found that teens that have a good relationship with their parents are less likely to experience a pregnancy. Therefore, let’s be proactive and do whatever it takes to prevent pregnancy from happening to one of our teenagers. I know it is not easy, and it could feel very awkward to sit down and discuss sex and pregnancy with teenagers, but they need desperately that we do so. I remember when I was a teen my parents never discussed sex and pregnancy with me, but fortunate for me, my grandmother did one day. And she educate me in a very informal way, but I got it and it stuck with me all trough my high school years and beyond. I still remember her words. She said: "you know, there is going to be a time when boys are going to like you, and will tell you that they love you, and a lot of other things to get you in bed with them. But remember this, a boy that proposes that to you does not respect you, and must likely after they get what they want, they will dump you and move on to the next. They might even ridicule you and laugh at you after. They might even tell your pears about it, and give you a bad reputation in school. And worse, you can even get pregnant and get dumped." Those words was all it took for me to remain pure. My advice is - Don't hesitate to talk to your kids about sex, pregnancy, STD's, HIV, and other possible risks. They need you to do so today.

While I was surfing the net looking for information on teenage pregnancy I found out the there are several organizations that offer education programs targeting teenagers. For example, Planned Parenthood has affiliates all over the country and many of these rely on volunteer educators to go out and teach people about sexuality issues. Also, several Boys and Girls Clubs provide education using the Talking to Teens about Tough Issues curriculum (a list of these clubs and a description of the curriculum can be found at http://childrennow.org/toughissues/Talk_Open.html>. I hope this will help on findings the solutions too.

Will be continue……..

Educations' Role

Assalamualaikum,

I appreciate your negative and positive view about my point, Kak Yati. Actually , peer groups roles are related with my first point-Parents’ Role. Parents that play their role can produce a good teenager. A good teenager can be a good friend so that , teenager pregnancy will be reduced. To find a good friend is quite difficult but we have to accept that friends will be influence much in our lifestyle. Whatever it is , we know that peer groups’ role can solve teenager pregnancy problems.

Thank you to Raidah to share your opinion about causes of teenage pregnancy. But, in my point of view, prostitution is one of the causes teenagers’ pregnancy problem in Malaysia. It can contribute to another problem such as abortion, neglected children and abandoned children. To solve the teenage pregnancy problems, we must find solution for the problem in our society like prostitution.

Educations’ Role

My next point in solving this problem is educations’ role. The subject of sex education remains a divisive one. On one side are those who argue that Malaysian should learn to accept adolescent sexuality and make guidance and birth control more easily available. The sex education must care about society sensitivity. On the other side are those who contend that sex education is up to the parents , not the state and that teaching children about birth control is equal to condoning prosmiscuity, or violating family religious beliefs and values.

Sex education in Pendidikan Jasmani dan Kesihatan (PJK) is the best solution. Sex education should be taught in schools. The courses should include information about contraception. Only a handful of states require or even encourage sex education, and fewer still encourage teaching about birth control or abortion. Malaysia state leave the question of sex education up to the Ministry of Education.

Local school boards can answer the question of sex education. They must provide such instruction . School counselors can be as sources of sex information. Teenager must been given advice about sex. That is because teenager can’t talk about sexuality to their parents. Parents are extremely uncomfortable doing so.
Organizations , including schools and others agencies like NGO must serve young people with sex education. Offer programs designed to help parents and school teach their children about sexuality. NGO such as PUSAT KEBAHAGIAAN WANITA DAN REMAJA (KEWAJA) is one example that instruct women and teenager who need a help. In fact , the knowledge about sexuality hopefully can prevent the pregnancy among the teenager.

Most would agree that sex education should start early , before a child sexuality becomes an issue. Although we have most of knowledge and resources needed to solve the problem of teenage pregnancy, we have failed to do so , but we have to do.
That all for now. Hope we can discuss this issue later.

More Causes of Teenage Pregnancy

First of all, I want to give my opinion on Noraida’s second point that peer group’s role contributing to solving teenage pregnancy problems. I have pro and cons on her point.

Negative view - A lot of teenagers indulge in early sexual behavior due to peer pressure. Teenagers growing in largely promiscuous societies tend to date far earlier than others in slightly more conventional setups. This is due to the fact that they feel the great need to be 'hip' and 'accepted' by their circle of friends. The only way they could probably achieve that would be by having a boyfriend or girlfriend or at least by dating and indulging in sexual acts often. This kind of rash behavior could lead to unintended pregnancies.

Positive view - Me, myself as a friend to my friend shall and will give my best efforts to help her/him. You also will do the same, don’t u? Maybe not in term of money coz I’m not rich but in term of good advice from myself experiencing things that can be shared together. This will help them from doing the same mistakes that I did. Well, u know what I mean right? I think - A good friend is hard to find but when u find one it will be friends forever!

Thank you raidah, for giving me extra point to add to my topics of discussion on teenage pregnancy. “Teenagers come from poor family” is the key to my next point. In our world today most especially in the developing country, teenage pregnancy is as a result of traditional roles and early marriage, because teenage pregnancy is seen as a blessing and a proof that the young woman is fertile. In most cases, poverty contributes to this, when one does not have someone to take care of her at her early age.

The in-take of drugs, alcohol etc contributes a lot to teenage pregnancy too. Meanwhile, as a teenager you may not be ready for sexual intercourse at that moment but being intoxicated with drugs and alcohol makes you to be involved in unintended sexual activity just because sex at that time is less emotionally painful and embarrassing. To avoid this, eradicate anything alcohol or drugs.

Let’s go to my next point on causes of teenage pregnancy. Contraceptive failure. This is yet another very fundamental reason for teenage pregnancies today. Though there are many types and brands of contraceptives and emergency birth control pills easily available in the market, these are never a guarantee for complete safety. Only Mother Nature knows when she might want to get into action, so no form of birth control is going to be completely foolproof! Sometimes, not knowing how to use a contraceptive properly can lead to unwanted teenage pregnancy.

Educating teenager about the consequences of promiscuous behavior and giving him/her a loving, balanced home atmosphere, can actually go a long way in curbing unwanted teenage pregnancy in the future. This, along with stern steps taken by both the school and the government will surely help nip this problem in the bud.

Hope to hear news from all of u soon. I will continue giving my findings next time. Bye.

WHAT THE CAUSE OF THE TEENAGE PREGNANCY?

Firstly i would like to thank to all my friends to give your support. I want to apologize bacause i take a long time to give my opinion in our discussion because i have no idea and still searching a material to share. I agree with both of you that parents is a good role model to their children because their mother and father is the first people in their life. Even their family is busy, they should spend their time together with their children especially their teenage because teenage want their more attention. In the age in 16 to 21 years is the time to growing up. Parents should make their teenage like a friend to know and share their children problem. It is because their children can find the wrong friend to solve their problem. Sometimes they cannot find the good friend. It can encourage them to be an out of action such as when them found the wrong friend to share their problem, the friend can attract them with money and drug. It is a starting to social problem and teenage pregnancy.

Many cause we can discuss how the teenage pregnancy to be actually. Some teenage can sell their body to men. It is because they need some money to get anything they want such as handphone, motocycle and others.they dont know what they do. Several of them came from a poor family. Of couse their family cant give them luxury.

Peer Groups' Role

Assalamualaikum,
One thing that did catch my eye while I was reading your opinion, Kak Yati , when you said, “Experimenting with sex and the consequences of unsafe sex can many times be the root cause of teen pregnancies”. I’m sorry because I don’t agree with that point. In my opinion, carelessness on the part of parents causes a great frustration amongst the adolescents or teenagers, compelling them to look for affection and love from their boy friends. Opposite sex works like a remarkable remedy in lessening psychological dejection, leading to sex and subsequent teenage pregnancy. So, the feeling of ‘frustration’ can be the root cause of teen pregnancies.

Now, let’s continue my part.

Peer groups’ Role

Another point to solve teenage pregnancy problem is peer groups’ role. Let’s talk about what peer group can do in solving this problem. As friends , they can give good example in influencing their friends. For example, if their friends are smoking, they will smoke too and if their friends like to playing football, they will joined the activities.

Besides that, peer groups must have responsiblities. As best friend , they must encourage their friends to ask their parents opinion whatever they want to do. Peer groups can also be a good listener. Being a good listener can make their friends reveal their problem and know what they are facing.

Peer groups play important role to decrease the teenage pregnancy. As good friends, they must lead their group members to do healthy activities , for example study groups, sports and recreation activities.

In short, peer groups’ role that I mentioned are gives good manner , have responsible and lead their group members to doing healthy lifestyle.

See you again. I will continue my view next time.

Consequence of raging hormones!

Experimenting with sex and the consequences of unsafe sex can many times be the root cause of teen pregnancies.

Most teenagers experience sudden and hitherto unknown emotions and feelings during their early puberty. The onset of puberty causes a huge rush of hormones in the body, giving rise to hitherto unknown sexual desires and the formation of a new identity of one's own sexuality. All this, coupled with a sudden sense of new-found freedom and sexuality, results in many of them giving vent to their feelings through sexual expressions and experiences. This combined with a natural sense of rebellion and the desire to 'express freedom' results in the teen indulging in acts of sex without really considering how heinous this may prove to be in the future.
Of course, most countries stress on sex education in schools, but yet, some teenagers involve themselves in unsafe sex, which could lead to unwanted pregnancies. This is one of the most vital reasons for teenage pregnancies at this time.

Other definition of Teenage pregnancy

A teen pregnancy could be loosely defined as a girl attaining motherhood before she reaches the legal age of adulthood.

In my opinion, a teen pregnancy can actually be quite hazardous to both the mother and her infant. The teenage girl is too young and her reproductive system, too vulnerable at this stage of her life. Under such circumstances, her falling pregnant and giving birth to a child can take a permanent toll on her whole life system.

Parents' Role- The First Educators & Resposibilities

Thanks for your comment , Kak Yati. I understand what you’re saying.

Actually , I have more opinion about parents’ role that can solve the problem. As what we know before , parents are good example for their children. They are also the first educators. Parents have to teach their children about religious belief , morals and values at home. Children are being taught honesty or how to deal with other children and adults. They should be taught how to respect others and how to treat other people, especially members of the opposite sex. They should be taught how to love, honor, and obey their parents or teachers. In short, parents are not doing a dang thing to educate their children. A person's word means nothing if parents didn’t play their role. These are just some of the issues parents expect teachers to handle when they, as parents, fall short of their own responsibility. Parents must take responsibility on it and do the right thing teaching children moral values and religious belief.

Furthermore , parents’ role is to pay attention to their children. Nowadays parents who are always working and too busy to pay attention to what is happening in their own home. Usually these teenagers turn to drinking and drugs and have parties in their fancy homes while their parents are out working. It is scary to think of what my generation faces and what the generation of my children will be like years from now. Teenage pregnancy will be reduced if parents spent more time with their children. Parents must take care their children. For example, do hobbies or recreation with the whole family members. Parents must knows who their childrens’ friends, where they go and what they did. Beside that, encouragement from parents are very important . Such as being there when they need us.

See you again. I will continue my view about how peer grous' role in solving teenage pregnancy next time.

My Comments on Teenage pregnancy

Assalamualaikum and good morning to all.

I agree with what Noraida mention before that parents role are important in reducing pregnancy among teenagers. Campaign such as "Rumahku Syurgaku" is where all the education started - parenthood. What I don't agree is that parents are not the only role model for teenagers but there are many other icons such as teachers, politicians, artists, singers and many more. For example, teachers in school are role model for good behavior and good manners other than giving knowledge. The politicians are role model for what a good citizens should do for the country and do good deeds. What I mean is that all those icons in the media and schools/college/universities play an important role too and give an impact in teenagers live. What they do and what they say will be followed by teenagers. In facts what the icons wear will be teenagers trend nowadays. To me if all the icons shows a good lifestyle it will definitely effect teenagers lifestyles too in a positive way.

I also want to thank Raidah for supporting my idea that lower education levels contribute to teenage pregnancy.

Parents' Role- Parents As 'Role Model'

Hi, good morning all my friends…

Here, I have an opinion in order to solve this problem. Firstly, parents role are very important. Every parents are responsible to show good attitudes and healthy lifestyle because they are considered as ‘role model’ to their children. All children learn by example. They will do what you do, say what you say, act as you act, and display the same behaviours as parents. They will follow every steps and everything what their parents do. As parents, you should think everything positively for the sake of your children. Good manner will influence their life and behavior if not now, perhaps for their future.

Teenage Pregnancy- My Definition

I agree with you, Raidah. Actually, teenage pregnancy without marriage will bring along a lot of social problem like abortion, babies abandon, prostitution and so on. Giving information to society about implication of teenage pregnancy like campaign and education is the right mechanism to solve unless reduces the numbers of teenage pregnancy. However, there are many methods to solve the problem. I will describe it detail in my part HOW TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM. Before we go through my part, let us reveal the definition of this problem.

Teenage pregnancy is a pregnancy that occurs in an adolescent. An adolescent is a female who has reached teenage years and is 19 years old or younger. The area under discussion of teenage pregnancy is regularly followed by a vital discussion of it as a problem or epidemic, but sociologists have learned to not accept supposed social problems as unmitigated evils. An examination of teenage pregnancy as a socially conditioned event may allow important insights about the individuals concerned with teenage pregnancy, adding together to the problems of teenager themselves. In Malaysia, adolescent pregnancy is considered as an illegal act if they are not married. In most cases the adolescent of underage 17 will be sent to rehabilitation centre if the cases can be detected.

Got to go. My son need me by his side. See you…

Before we discuss further on our topics, I want to share my experience with you all about my "Open House" during Hari Raya. What happen is that during the occasion, my family and I are surprised by a group of people we didn't met before saying that they are coming for the engagement ceremony at our house. Mistakenly they got the wrong house. Ha! Ha! Ha!

If you have any stories/experience or anything that you want to share with us please don't hesitate to jot down okay.

The issues of teenage pregnancy are complicated by our conflicting attitudes and behaviors. Talk of sex fills the airwaves, younger girls are portrayed as sex objects, and sex is used to sell everything from clothing to news. Yet we are shocked at the rising numbers of teens who are pregnant. If we are truly concerned about the problem of teenage pregnancy, we must move beyond the moral panic and designing an effective solutions on this matter.

definition of teenage pregnancy

hello
see you again
today i would like to share with you all about definition of teenage pregnancy.
who is teenage?teenage means the people usually within the ages of 13- 19 years old.
teenage pregnancy is defined as a teenaged or underage girl becoming pregnant.
Data supporting teenage pregnancy as a social issue in developed countries include lower educational levels, higher rates of proverty, and other poorer "life outcomes" in children of teenage mothers. Teenage pregnancy in developed countries is usually outside of marriage, and carries a social stigma in many communities and cultures. For these reason, there have been many studies and campaigns which attempt to uncover the causes and limit the numbers of teenage pregnancies. However in other countries and cultures, particularly in the developing world, teenage pregnancy is usually within marriage and does not involve a social stigma.

Comment How/Why Teenagers Pregnancy Problem Happens

Salam Aidilfitri,
I'm so sorry for delay my comment because I have a few task to accomplish.
I'm agree with Kak Yati's opinion , about how or why teenagers pregnancy problem happened. Generally, this problem occurs all around the world included Malaysia. Teenagers pregnancy problem happens in different situation. This problem happens in voluntary situation or compulsion. In my opinion , lack of attention from their parents and lack of religious knowledge are the main causes. However, I'm admit there are a lot of factors that contribute in this problem. I had found an article about this problem in The Star (Monday,27th April 2009). It's reveal that 60% of teenagers did sexual activities. I'm also read an article about 15 years old teenage was pregnant because raped by her own father since 3 years ago. So, its proved this problem happens in voluntary situation or compulsion.

More on Teenage Pregnancy

Assalamualaikum & SELAMAT HARI RAYA!!!. Maaf Zahir & Batin.

Hello and hi again my group members. Hoping the three of you will be joining me soon in this blog. I'm waiting for your long term reply/feedback. Me too, busy with raya program and travelling "balik kampung" but please don't forget to keep in touch.

First off all, let me continue on the topic of discussion - Teenage Pregnancy. We may be wondering about the causes and effects of teenage pregnancy. There are many causes of teenage pregnancy. A teenage girl may become pregnant as a result of many different situations but one thing for sure that all teenage pregnancies are the result of sexual activity, whether voluntary or involuntary. Only abstinence from all sexual activity is guaranteed 100 percent not to cause teen pregnancy, do you agree with me?

Teens are more likely to become pregnant if they drop out of school. Recent studies suggest that most adolescent mothers have already dropped out of school before they become pregnant. No school means no education or lack of knowledge on safe sex, be it from parents, schools, or otherwise, is a cause of teenage pregnancy. Many teenagers are not taught about methods of birth control and how to deal with peers who pressure them into having sex before they are ready. Although they teachers science and moral in class, education about responsible sexual behavior and specific, clear information about the consequences of sexual intercourse including pregnancy are frequently not offered. Therefore, much of the "sex education" that adolescents receive filters through misinformed or uninformed peers. Adolescents today are growing up in a culture in which peers, TV and movies, music, and magazines transmit subtle and obvious messages that unmarried sexual relationships are common, accepted, and even expected.

Socioeconomic factors and limited life options, rather than ethnic or cultural background, place many youth at higher risk for unintended pregnancy. Early attempts at preventing teen pregnancies often ignored the complex relationship between development, environment, and behavior. Neither those programs that focus on increasing knowledge, nor abstinence-only programs have been effective in reducing the rate of unintended pregnancies. Adolescent behaviors are shaped by the desire to broaden horizons, interact with peers, or try out adult roles and behaviors. If early sexual behavior is the only perceived option to achieve these objectives, teens may well choose it.

Integrated Project

Assalamualaikum.....
Welcome to puteri2impiana blog and hope it's not late to say happy fasting!

First, let me introduced myself. My name is Hariati Abdul Ghani and u can call me Yatie. I have 2 brothers and 3 sisters. Segamat is my hometown but I'm working in JPJ Muar. If u need any help/info regarding JPJ, don't hesitate to ask and I'm glad to assist u.

Now, let's move on to our topic of discussion - Teenage Pregnancy.

Teenage Pregnancy mean teenager or under age girl becoming pregnant. It's usually refers to a women who have not reached adulthood, who became pregnant.

There are numbers of reasons for Teenage Pregnancy to happen. Fertility to early pregnancy depends on both personal factors and societal factors.

In most country in the world Teenage Pregnancy usually happen outside of marriage and carries social stigma in many communities and cultures. The pregnant teenager always to be blame although it is not her wrongdoing. Studies have found that between 11 and 20 percent of pregnancies in teenagers are a direct result of rape, while about 60 percent of teenage mothers had unwanted sexual experiences preceding their pregnancy. To me, teenager should not to be blame for unwanted pregnancy because it is not her fault. It is definitely the irresponsible person fault who treats her brutally for sex. Teenager might think that sexual abuse is one way of showing love or cares but the fact is that they might misunderstood it because they lack of knowledge of what is sex all about. This situation make teenager's an easy pray for the rapist to take advantage over her. The sexual maniac is the one who should be lock up and punish, not the innocent teenager.

Please send your comments, idea or suggestion regarding the Teenage Pregnancy and it shall be very much appreciated. TQ
